Exploring the UNESCO city of Šibenik

The only city in Europe with two heritages in one place

The town of Šibenik is a harmonious combination of the old city center, the largest and oldest in the whole country and is nowadays characterized with historic streets as well as some modern architecture. Behind the wall you can find many very old churches and charming stone narrow streets with a lot of stairs (in total there is 2,851 stairs!). 

This romantic medieval town, with stone hous­es where many mighty cultural sights arise, will attract you with rich history and magnificent views on the beautiful nature around.

Šibenik is one of the rare cities in the world with two UNECSO World Heritage Sites!

Šibenik’s Cathedral of St. James was designed by Juraj Dalmatinac in the mid-1400s, and it is entirely-stone-built Gothic Renaissance edifice.

Only 3 km from the Summer Adventure (reach by bike on a family friendly road), at the entrance to St. Ante channel, St. Nicholas’ Fortress is located. It was built in the 16th century to defend the port of Šibenik from Turkish attack by sea. This newly opened fortress can only be reached by boat from Šibenik.

Visit Krka National Park

A must see when you are in Šibenik

If you stay in Šibenik, you must see Krka National park. It is only 15 km from the Summer Adventure Apartment. Famous and beautiful Krka National park (watch the video) is home to dozens of stunning waterfalls including a series of 17 waterfalls in a space of 450 metres. Indeed, the KRKA Valley – where the Krka River flows through a series of gorges, lakes and rapids before meeting the sea is one of the wonders of Croatia. You will be fascinated with canyons and waterfalls.

It’s almost all river Krka in nacional park (about 60km), so you could not see all in one day.  First of all you must see waterfall Skradinski buk. It has a few entrances. First one is Lozovac entrance gate where you can park and take a bus to Skradinski buk. The second entrance is in small village Skradin. From there you take a boat to waterfalls Skradinski buk. Bus and boat are included in entrance ticket. You must also visit  waterfall Roški slap. Distance between Skradinski buk and Roški slap is app.20 km. Same entrance ticket valid for all Krka National Park. The 517 wooden steps leading to Oziđana pećina cave treat you with a wonderful view worth the effort!

The National Park offers lots of walking trails, which are perfect for a hike especially in spring and autumn.

Walking and hiking

Lots of viewpoints will take your breath away and stay in your memory forever

Šibenik has astonish landscape, perfect for walking and hiking trip. Best time to explore it is in spring and autumn.

The most beautifl walking trails are in Krka National Park with some stunning viewpoints. They are the best way to see the landscape and wealth of flora and fauna of the aquatic and terrestrial habitats, and to get a true experience of nature that encompasses all the senses. The trails are equipped with educational panels providing detailed information about the plant and animal life in the park, and the cultural and historical points of interest. 

There are also a few spectacular viewpoints in Čikola canyon, the longest tributary of Krka.

But just 3 km from Summer Adventure is the best promenade through the St. Anthony’s Channel. It is one of the most amazing entrances to a city from the sea.

St. Anthony’s Channel is a 4,4 km new promenade surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and offers stunning panoramic views of the Šibenik archipelago.

You can have a nice walk near the sea. There you can see attractions: the St Nicholas’ fortress, bridge to the isle of Školjić, an undersea tunnel built for military purposes, the cave with St. Anthony’s Chapel, beautiful coves that lay at the end of the channel and amazing viewpoint to the city and the channel.

Cycling

The possibilities in the area are plenty

First you may not miss the 12 km tour through the Anthony’s Channel. See one of the most amazing entrances to a city from the sea. St. Anthony’s Channel is a 4,4 km  promenade surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and offers stunning panoramic views of the Šibenik archipelago. There is a small part of the walking trail (around 100 meters) which is not reachable by bike. You will have to push a bike while going on foot. There you can see attractions: the St Nicholas’ fortress, bridge to the islet Školjić, an undersea tunnel built for military purposes, the cave with St. Anthony’s Chapel, beautiful coves that lay at the end of the channel and amazing viewpoint to the city and the channel.

Summer Adventure is also the best starting point for a lot of cycling trails in Šibenik.

Krka Bikes presents 470 kilometers of bike routes through the Krka National Park. In an environment of protected nature with a unique cultural and historical heritage, the bike routes were formed as circular routes to allow the cyclists to return to their starting point mostly without utilizing the same route.

Swimming

Here is our personal selection for you of the many possibilities

Aquapark DALMATIA is located just 1 km from Summer Adventure. It is the first themed water park in Croatia. Numerous slides, nozzles, sprinklers and waterfalls are only part of the fun adventures. It is best water fun ex­perience on the Adriatic!

The first public beach with views over the surrounding islands is distanced 500 m.

Less than a kilometer from the Summer Adventure is located Amadria Park beaches.

The bay of Amadria Park is free of charge for all visitors. In 4 km it offers everyone to find its own perfect spot – lively ones in the center of the action or the quiet oasis of peace 🙂 Here you can find everything from bars and pubs to the restaurants and fast food offer. On the beach you can rent deckchairs and parasols, where you can hide yourself with favorite book while the children are enjoying in the sea. One of the biggest attractions is »Dalmatian ethno village« which also offers great traditional culinary products. Variety of different beach activities, such as concerts, wizard shows, street artists, outside movie theatre, fireworks, disco bars, continue in the evening hours when beach transform into a promenade.

Near Summer Adventure are so many famous beaches, you possibly can’t visit them all.

Public beach Rezaliste, is ideal for children and located less than 2 km from Summer Adventure. Find your way.

If you prefer peace and tranquillity, then a visit of 3 km distanced picturesque St. Anthony’s Channel is obligatory. You can reach it by local road which is suitable for family cycling trips. Family friendly pebble beach with playground offers magnificent views on the St. Nicholas’ fortress. Some beautiful coves that lay at the end of the channel offer peaceful swimming in clean sea along St Anthony’s Channel.

Kornati National Park & boat trips

Exploring Dalmatia from the sea gives you a totally different perspective

Šibenik is a true paradise for sailors. The Šibenik archipelago consists of 249 islands, where the big part of it, is protected as National Park Kornati. Picturesque islands of which only 6 are permanently inhabited. The islands of Kornati is an archipelago with the highest density on the entire Mediterrenian, exceptional bacause, with their raw beauty, they remained intact of the development of the modern time. One of the most beautiful nautical routes, 26 NM long, connects two national parks: Kornati and Krka.

It stretches along the Kornati archipelago, past picturesque islands, through St. Anthony channel, all the way to Sibenik and further through Lake Prokljan to the picturesque town of Skradin and Skradinski Buk – the longest waterfall on the Krka River.

Šibenik boasts with the only marina in Croatia, awarded with 5 golden anchors “D-Marin Mandalina”. Here you can choose between rich fleet of vessels.

You can reserve one day trip to Kornati by travel agencies  in the city center of Šibenik or in Amadria Park. If you want to visit some of the closest islands Zlarin or Krapanj, you can rent a boat also in the nearby beach Rezalište or just join a Pirate adventure in Amadria Park.

Adrenaline sports

For some exciting moments at the coast

In the surroundings of Summer Adventure you can choose all sort of adrenaline sports.

The most famous local adrenaline acivity is bungee jumping from Sibenik’s bridge. If you want to take it a little easier then choose the zip line or canyoning on River Cikola. You can also go for some free climbing there.

Near Summer Adventure are also some diving centers. The nearest island Krapanj you can also visit a Diving museum at the Spongiola Hotel.
